It's all the fault of Easter Eggs

So many people are complaining that they've gained weight during the pandemic.  Me?  I've been losing weight for the past five years -- 20 pounds so far.

But - the reason I'm gaining weight this past month is the usual one for this time of year - Easter Candy.  Sees has the most delicious easter eggs and  I love the Mayfair ones - dark chocolate covered easter egg with cream filling stuffed with nuts, candied cherries and other good stuff.  Yum. 

Since I always eat salad for lunch, when I run out of my Sees Mayfair easter egg stash, my weight will get back on it's gradual losing weight thing again.

Egg Hunt Disasters

The news of how Trump's White House Easter Egg fiasco (He won't be there.  He had no idea this was a National thing and expected. He ordered a tiny amount of eggs and did NOT invite the usual crowd of kids.)
reminded me of some of the Easter Egg hunt disasters that I've been involved in.

A long time ago my boss ordered me to get eggs for a library Easter Egg Hunt.  She wanted chocolate eggs.  So I tracked down a company that produced them and ordered a thousand.  Surely that should be enough.

Was I surprised that they arrived in a small box.  One Thousand eggs in there?  Well, it was what she wanted.  And it was too late to get anything else.

On the day of the hunt, she didn't even allow me to come to the event.  She went to the large grassy space near our satellite library, discovered hundreds of children ready to go, threw out those one-inch solid chocolate eggs which immediately disappeared into the grass.

The kids couldn't find them.

Who got blamed for this mess?
Me, of course.

A few Spring and Easter Books

So,
Did you find a basket of beautiful eggs today?
I decided to skip the egg coloring and go straight to the deviled eggs.  YUM.

One of my favorite Easter books is Max's Chocolate Chicken by Rosemary Wells.
I see that she's come out with others - Max's Easter Surprise and Max and Ruby Celebrate Easter.

And my new favorite is Here Comes the Easter Cat by Deborah Underwood.

No Easter Eggs?

The 14 year old had no desire to color eggs this year.  (yea. No mess in the kitchen. No colored fingers when we open the shells.)  I boiled some anyway yesterday so that we could have the traditional Saturday hot hard boiled egg breakfast.


Therefore, today I didn't hide any eggs.  But I did make up a basket and hid it.  She's been awake almost an hour and still has no urge to vacate her room and hunt for the basket.  Such a change from years ago when she couldn't wait to do all those things. Today, while she's off at a friend's house participating in their Easter Egg hunt, I'll turn the hard boiled eggs into traditional deviled eggs.  I know she loves those.

Oooooo.  Found another basket (online). Pretty:

I did hide a basket with Reese's Cups Easter eggs -- her favorite candy. (not pictured above)

She complained during the whole the time she looked for it saying, "You're really getting a kick out of this, aren't you?"

Yes, I laughed to myself every time she passed the basket without seeing it.  I was a meanie and gave her no hints. Finally she collapsed in the living room chair, looking right at it.  Even so, it took her a moment to actually see it on the bookshelves.

Easter Eggs, Oh My!

Since Easter is tomorrow, many families are busy today either decorating hard boiled eggs or attending community Easter Egg Hunts. (or Chocolate Kiss hunts. or candy tosses, or ....)

But why eggs?
