No Easter Eggs?

The 14 year old had no desire to color eggs this year.  (yea. No mess in the kitchen. No colored fingers when we open the shells.)  I boiled some anyway yesterday so that we could have the traditional Saturday hot hard boiled egg breakfast.

Therefore, today I didn't hide any eggs.  But I did make up a basket and hid it.  She's been awake almost an hour and still has no urge to vacate her room and hunt for the basket.  Such a change from years ago when she couldn't wait to do all those things. Today, while she's off at a friend's house participating in their Easter Egg hunt, I'll turn the hard boiled eggs into traditional deviled eggs.  I know she loves those.

Oooooo.  Found another basket (online). Pretty:

(added later)
I did hide a basket with Reese's Cups Easter eggs -- her favorite candy. (not pictured above)
She complained during the whole the time she looked for it saying, "You're really getting a kick out of this, aren't you?"
Yes, I laughed to myself every time she passed the basket without seeing it.  I was a meanie and gave her no hints. Finally she collapsed in the living room chair, looking right at it.  Even so, it took her a moment to actually see it on the bookshelves.

Hoppy Easter Day

Suprise!
Yesterday, the 13-yeqr-old found the eggs I had hard bpiled and colored them herself last night without telling me.  She even cleaned up after herself,

Now, all I have to do is hide them before she wakes up.  (yes, she still wants an Easter Egg Hunt.)

Above -- our eggs.
Below -- eggs I would love to be able to make.

Egg Day approaches and Scrivener woes

For part of this past week we had two grandkids with us. Fun. Fun. We didn't take as many trips together as I had planned, just one to Havre de Grace, Maryland, to walk the Promenade along the Chesapeake Bay and buy chocolates at Bomboy's.

The grandkids colored three dozen eggs a few days ago. Thank heavens one of them took some of the eggs home with her. We never could have eaten that many ourselves. Now we're looking forward to deviled eggs and egg salad after the egg hunt.

On the Writing front, I'm busily transferring my cat story to Scrivener software and experimenting with how to use it.  If Lisa Yee (and other writers) recommends it, it must be good, right? So far I'd say there's a steep learning curve.

I'm also trying to figure out how to use those tiny cards on the Scrivener bulletin board as note taking cards for a nonfiction project (as suggested by another writer), but so far -- not so good.  I may have to go back to the old-fashioned way -- using pen and 4x6 paper note cards.

Problem 1 -- figuring out how to balance the open book beside my computer in the small space I have to work in order to refer to it to take notes. (Where the heck did I put that handy-dandy book weight which nicely keeps books open while you read and refer to them?)

Problem 2 -- there doesn't seem to be any way to reproduce those notes once I've taken them, because I haven't figured out how to either print out or gather up the note card info into one place. Sorting and shuffling the Scrivener note cards, yes.  But actually getting the info from the cards I've made, no.

Springtime Traditions -- Egg day

Ah,
The dying of the eggs.
The painting paper towels with egg dye.

The hiding of the eggs.
The search for the eggs.
(I really hid them well this time. It took her over an hour to find them all.)

The making of deviled eggs.
The eating of eggs.
The creating pictures from the colored eggshells.

Spring traditions, don'tcha love them?

Easter Eggs, Oh My!

Since Easter is tomorrow, many families are busy today either decorating hard boiled eggs or attending community Easter Egg Hunts. (or Chocolate Kiss hunts. or candy tosses, or ....)

But why eggs?
I could give you the long explanation, but this article does it much better than I could. Check it out.
