Fourth of July

Just for fun - some fireworks:

Oh, it's just one.
If you want multiple fireworks, go to my wall on Facebook today. Wowsers. The video there has almost too many fireworks at once.

For the real ones, we'll be walking to a park overlooking the fairgrounds where the county fireworks go off.  (and off in the distance we can also see fireworks from two other towns north of us. fun!)

Happy Fourth of July

I hope you will be able to find fireworks on display somewhere near you.

(added later)
Wonderful fireworks, which we saw for free with no hassles by walking a quarter mile to the edge of High Bluff with 13-year-old granddaughter, two-year old grandson and daughter Jennifer Lawrence and her husband, Michael.
While we were watching them, the clouds gradually lowered covering the top half of the higher explosions. Weird.
Our view included not only those fireworks at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, but four other productions on beaches north of us, along with reflections of flashes from a display to our right, further up the San Dieguito valley.

Happy Fourth of July

Fireworks to the South of us and a full moon rising in the east, 88 degrees with no mosquitoes, watching the fireworks with my two grand-girls -- what could be nicer on the Fourth of July?

Fireworks

Monday (July 4th) we went to see the fireworks with the two grandkids. We left early because I wanted to try a new place to view them. Recently we've been watching the display that shoots off in the playing fields south of Calvert Hall school for boys. Unfortunately that meant we had to park in a shopping center parking lot, complete with the blazing lights of the shopping center.

I was brought up seeing fireworks being displayed over fields or being shot over a lake. The parking lot lights really annoyed me.

We had heard that we could enjoy the same fireworks by sitting in the playing fields of a nearby elementary school. So off we went this year to see if we could park anywhere close by. About a block or two away, we found a good spot to park, unloaded our folding canvas chairs, gathered our snacks, and explored the playing fields.

When we settled in the middle field, near the baseball diamond, the girls ran off to play on the school playground. When they returned, they discovered more people had set up in the field and some were lighting Roman Candles and other fireworks in the center of the dirt baseball diamond. Even more people came, some wearing glowing necklaces and crowns. This inspired the younger grandkid to get out her light-up Koosh and wave it around.

Once the first firework exploded -- behind the largest tree on the edge of the playing field -- we realized we needed to move our chairs. To the Left. To the Left. To the left, left, left, until we could clearly see the display.

This was more like it.
Colored designs in a darkening sky and a community of friendly people watching and enjoying them on a dark, grassy ground. Just like I remembered from my childhood.
Soooo, how was YOUR Fourth?

Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!
I hope you enjoyed parades and fireworks and food roasted over hot coals.

My family gifted me with some time alone today. They went to the pool's Fourth of July party while I stayed home trying to organize things for my trip to ALA next week.
(Speaking 10:30 am at the Nonfiction Book Blast and signing at Albert Whitman's booth from 2 to 3 pm -- all on Sunday)

I've searched all over. (and in the process have straightened up places that haven't seen daylight for months/ years/ eons) And still have not been able to find any sign of ALA having sent me my nametag and tickets to the various workshops and dinners I've paid for. It just supports what I've thought all along -- it never was sent.

So I e-mailed the organizers asking for an e-confirmation that I can use to get into things.
and e-mailed the workshop organizer asking where the workshop will be held.
Once the paperwork is in order, then onward to the packing.

no fireworks

Interesting fourth of July.

The grandkid and I finally made it to the Towson Fourth of July parade this year. It's a nice 'local' parade with two homemade floats and lots of bands -- and politicians. Even the governor of the state was there.

In the afternoon we tried going to the party at the pool, but it was called off because of thunder. (no rain, just clouds and lots of thunder.)
So, we headed out to the usual fireworks place at 8:00pm to get a good place. And got pounded with rain. After a while, people came around to say it had been cancelled.

Finally got the kid to bed after "just one more chapter of Felicity, pleeeeeeease?"

It's after 11 pm and I'm putting off going to bed because various neighbors seem to have to fire off all of their firecrackers before midnight. It sounds like a war zone, sorta.

And how was your Fourth?
